Some time ago, I posted that a big announcement was forthcoming. All the possibilities and potential impossibilities were carefully considered. And the result?

The Michael Miller Fairy Frost shade card just arrived. If you're a fan of Fairy Frost, drop by for a drool. We're bringing this in and would love your input. AND there is one that glows in the dark! It really works - I went into my other 'office' and closed the door. There it was - a beautiful soft glow.

When the Country Club members met this month, I decided to do a demonstration with the 1 1/2" Quick Points ruler (also comes at 2"). Had a lot of fun making prairie points with it but not just that. Check out the single fabric rickrack and the double fabric rickrack - had a lot of fun with this ruler. The rickrack would look fabulous in the border of a baby quilt, or........

Hyde Park Road Construction Update:
There are now 4 lanes operational from Gainsborough to Fanshawe! Four lanes are operational from Oxford to the railroad underpass and then it drops to 2 lanes. This will change Saturday afternoon after the Santa Claus Parade!
It's been a long 2 years but it's finally coming to a close for the winter season. Next spring, it may take a week to put the final layer of paving on Phase 2 and then.....yahoo!!! Will be nice to see trees and shrubs and flowers in the planterboxes too.
Come and see us! All of us! The Purple Star Campaign is on for the holiday season. Participating Hyde Park shops with a purple star on their front door or window are offering free gifts or discounts to shoppers. That's us, too. Come and celebrate with us!

There was a Northwest London Community Meeting last night to discuss a strategy for helping those who lost their homes in the fire on Limberlost. This strategy will also be used as a guideline in case future incidents like this occur. One family and 2 single moms with children are being housed in hotels while the others are staying with family or friends. Immediate needs include toiletries, sheets, etc. This meeting was an effort to coordinate an organized collective response. If you can help, there is a special card you can fill out here at the shop, which will be passed along to the Northwest London Resource Centre Coordinator, Rachelle Coleman. A fire of this kind can happen to any of us. Let's help get these folks back on their feet. Thank you.

Sorry this is going out late - just saw it myself. If anyone is interested and free tonight, come and see how you can help those affected by the Limberlost fire.
Please find below an important message from the Northwest London Resource Centre:
Hello AWESOME Northwest London supporters!
Many of you have contacted, Rachelle from the Northwest London Resource Centre, our Ward 7 & 8 Councillors Josh Morgan and Paul Hubert, the Churches and other Community Partners to both seek information on where things are with the tragic fire this past weekend in the neighbourhood as well as to offer support in various capacities to the neighbours who were part of this tragic event.
We are so very fortunate to have a neighbourhood full of such caring and compassionate individuals like yourself and know we have such awesome potential for a collective impact. We know many of you have taken up fund collections, collected household and personal items and offered to help in any way you can. Thank you for being such amazing neighbours and Northwest London Champion!
Organizations within the neighbourhood are working with our City Council members and the City of London to coordinate a plan and we'd like to provide an update to community members tonight.
A Community Meeting will take place tonight at West Park Church (955 Gainsborough Rd London Ontario N6H 4V3) at 7pm with the purpose of:
->sharing where we are with the response
->to bring together community members who are passionate about helping and
->share with them how they can direct their efforts at this time
Please join us this evening and for those wanting to be involved but cannot attend - please have them email the Northwest London Resource Centre at info@nwlrc.ca - noting how they can help or pass along the meeting time and extend an invite for them to attend.
Kindly,
Rachelle

The North entrance to the parking lot has pylons that are placed east/west, in order to indicate an opening from the road. This is true for all parking lot entrances along Hyde Park Road. Since I've been sharing this info, people have said it is easier now to visit us. So drop by and say hi and sometimes you just never know what will happen at the shop.

Our Wimpy 24 hr Pillowcase Sewathon is ready to start at 3:00 pm today. Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Northcott, for providing an amazing supply of fabrics for this event. Also wish to thank our customers who donated fabrics. Dinner is on the house tonight - it's gonna be a good time.
ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:
Crews are finally paving the west side of Hyde Park Road, north of Gainsborough Rd. However, they are now paving directly in front of our plaza so direct access is temporarily denied. I am expecting access to be available early this afternoon if not before. Parking is available off of North Routledge Rd, south of our plaza. Thank you for your patience. The Pillowcase Sewathon will continue as planned.

The shop was finally quiet, enough time for lunch and to peruse two new magazines recently purchased (mags are a weakness). My fave is Victoria - the October Special Harvest Issue is a feast for the eyes, the recipes featuring grapes was enough to make me hungry again (bad girl) and I was delighted to find a brief article featuring quilting by the Writer-in-Residence and another article from Camp Wool, featuring what-else? - wool, hand-dyed luscious, tactile wool.
The other magazine was (are you sitting down?) Southern Fall Baking. I don't usually buy this magazine but the Caramel Layer Cake on the front cover did me in. Recipes featuring the flavours of maple, spice, caramel, honey, fruit, nuts - all typical of Fall baking, had me literally sitting on the edge of my chair. Fare such as Fresh Apple Cake with Orange Cream Cheese filling and Caramel Glaze, Cranberry-Ginger Bran Muffins, Cherry-Apricot Crumble Bars, White Chocolate Cranberry Toffee, the afore-mentioned Caramel Layer Cake, Maple Marshmallows (you make the marshmallow), Honey-Orange Scones with Honey Butter and Gingerbread Cupcakes with Browned Butter Maple Cream, to name a few (or too many) along with exciting photos, greeted me when I passed the obligatory index. May try out some of these on our class participants.

I'm always interested in magazines featuring quilts/quilting when they are not noted for anything quilty, and as for the Fall baking mag, well, kudos to the photographer - it worked.
Feel free to check them out next time you find yourself drifting in the general direction of the magazine section.

Well, I'm back and the shop is open again. Aside from a cold, cough, and a half-swollen tongue (don't know how I bit it overnight on Saturday, but it happened), I had a wonderful vacay. My sister visited and we shopped, watched old movies, reminisced and laughed a lot.
But now, back to business, as they say.
This week, Aug. 11-15th, all batting is 20% off. If your total purchase is $20.00 or more, receive a free fat quarter!
See you soon.

Heads up! I'm caving in - taking a real vacation - first in 2 years. The shop will be closed from August 4-8th. Need the rest and my sister is visiting from Tennessee - will be great to spend more time with her. Will make it up to you when the shop re-opens on Tuesday, August 11th - something special for that entire week!

The Row by Row Shop Hop is in full swing. Lots of free patterns to collect. Each shop has created their own row; if you are the first person to present your quilt to a shop (consisting of at least 8 rows, quilted, bound and labelled), you will receive 25 free fat quarters (approx. 6 metres) and, if you use that shop's row, there is a special surprise in store for you. The Hop runs from now till September 8th. See you soon.
